Service Description
This comprehensive Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) program prepares students for National Registry AEMT certification and Rhode Island AEMT-Cardiac licensure. The course expands upon the knowledge and skills of the EMT, focusing on advanced patient assessment, clinical decision-making, and the management of medical, cardiac, traumatic, and environmental emergencies. Students receive classroom instruction, hands-on skills training, simulation-based scenarios, and supervised clinical and field experience. Topics include advanced airway management, vascular access, medication administration, cardiac anatomy and physiology, 12-lead ECG acquisition and interpretation, cardiac rhythm recognition, electrical therapy, resuscitation, shock management, and care of patients experiencing acute coronary syndromes and other cardiovascular emergencies. The program emphasizes safe, evidence-based patient care, effective communication, professional behavior, documentation, teamwork, and the integration of Rhode Island EMS protocols into clinical practice. Students will demonstrate competency through written examinations, practical skills evaluations, patient-care simulations, clinical experiences, and field internship requirements. Successful completion of the program qualifies eligible students to pursue the National Registry AEMT certification examination and the applicable Rhode Island licensure process. Completion of the course does not guarantee certification or licensure. Students must independently satisfy all National Registry and Rhode Island Department of Health eligibility, testing, background, and application requirements. Classes held on Monday & Wednesday 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm and some Saturdays.
